U.S. to play in Sweden in August
(AP) - The U.S. soccer team will return
to Europe for the first time since last year's first-round World Cup
elimination when it plays Sweden in an exhibition game Aug. 22 at
Goteborg.
It will be just the fifth game between the nations, the first since a
1-0 U.S. victory on Jan. 24, 1998, at Orlando, Fla. Because it is on a
date reserved for national team games, many of the Europe-based American
players are likely to be available.
The Americans, 3-0-1 under interim coach Bob Bradley, next play June 2
against China at San Jose, Calif., their last exhibition before their
CONCACAF Gold Cup opener June 7 against Guatemala at Carson, Calif. They
also play in the Copa America starting June 28 against Argentina at
Maracaibo, Venezuela.
