Scott signs 1-year tender to stay with
Colts
(AP) - The Indianapolis Colts expect
starting guard Jake Scott to return back next season, but may not be as
fortunate with starting cornerback Jason David.
Scott planned to sign his one-year tender Thursday, keeping him with the
Super Bowl champions in 2007. The three-year veteran has started on the
right side the past two seasons.
His agent, Ken Staninger, said other
teams were interested in Scott, but the three-year veteran from Idaho
wanted to stay in Indy. Another team could have signed Scott, giving the
Colts the option to match it or receive a second-round draft pick as
compensation.
The Colts have three unsigned restricted free agents: David, the right
cornerback; end Josh Thomas, a key player in the Colts defensive line
rotation, and kick returner Terrence Wilkins.
NFL.com reported Thursday that David has agreed to a four-year deal with
the New Orleans Saints. Indy would have seven days to match the offer or
receive a fourth-round draft pick as compensation.
Indianapolis already has lost two other starters from its Super Bowl
defense, including the other starting cornerback, Nick Harper, who
signed with Tennessee last month. Linebacker Cato June signed with Tampa
Bay.
The Colts also lost safety Mike Doss when he signed Minnesota two weeks
ago.
Messages left for the agents of David and Wilkins were not immediately
returned.
